Get to Know Your Camera: Beginning Photography Workshop by Mike MacDonald Photography Do your pictures have a yellow or blue color cast? Are they either too dark or too light? Do you experience a lot of trial and error? Are you wondering what all those buttons and settings are for? Are you afraid to press those buttons? Well, you're not alone! And, these are the topics that this class addresses.

In truth, you're camera really isn't that smart. No kidding! So, all it takes is to replace the meager brain of your camera with your vastly superior one. All you need is some knowledge and a lot of practice. In this course, you'll learn what many of those buttons do and how you should set them.

A comprehensive handout of the PowerPoint lecture is provided. This is so don't have to take notes during the class and to have a valuable resource to guide you in the future.

Nowadays, when most cameras "seem" to do it all for you, the truth is that they absolutely do not! Most people who own a digital camera really have no idea how their cameras work. They simply give control to the camera and let it make the decisions for them. To know how to use and control your photographic tool is the first step in moving from "a person with a camera" to a photographer.  (Gift Cards for this class are available.)

In the first session of this course, you will be given a presentation that goes over many of the main features. Then, you will be sent home with your handout and a little bit of homework so that you can practice what you learned. NOTE: Our classes are for people who really want to learn."

When you return for the second session, you'll sit down with your camera and user manual, and you'll work with the camera in your hands.

Explanations of following camera functions include:

- How a Camera Works - Histogram - Matrix Metering - Taking a Meter Reading
- ISO - White Balance - Spot Meter - Aperture Priority
- F-stop - Manual Focus - Image Preview - Exposure Compensation
- Shutter Speed - Auto Focus - Flash - Depth of Field Preview
- Manual Metering - Depth of Field - Fill Flash - File Formats (jpeg or RAW)

It is important that you have a digital camera that has Manual Exposure Mode. This is mamdatory. Please see the Course Requirements.

After the session, you'll be ready to move onto our other photography classes.
